Sarape is a long blanket with fringes and distinctive multicolored stripes. It is usually worn by men in Mexico, normally in the form of a magnificent shawl and poncho with a hole for the head. Besides parallel stripes in saturated colors, sarape is sometimes decorated with other patterns – usually geometrical forms or zigzags. Original serape was made of densely woven, waterproof fabric, dyed with the use of natural pigments. Bright, saturated colors of this cotton attire are the most recognizable element of traditional Mexican outfit, obviously sombrero must be remembered too.
