Small, round objects, which were initially sewn into clothes mainly for decoration, appeared as early as in the times of the first civilizations thousands of years ago. Buttons that fasten or support items of clothing were probably invented in Germany in the 13th century. Towards the end of the Middle Ages, they began to spread throughout Europe. The gentry and aristocracy were particularly fond of effective buttons made of precious metals and expensive stones, with fanciful designs and intricate workmanship. Currently, the buttons are kept quite simple, they are also made of inexpensive materials such as wood or plastic.
