King Laoghaire, a pagan ruler of Tara, planned to kill Saint Patrick. The king invited Patrick to follow him back to Tara to profess his faith in front of the people of Ireland. While traveling, the king set up an ambush to kill Patrick. Despite knowing the king's plan, Patrick, accompanied by a group of young clerics and a boy named Benén, continued towards Tara. He blessed his companions, and a cloud of protection came down upon them. When they reached the ambush, the soldiers saw only eight deer passing them into the wild and a fawn carrying a bundle on its shoulder. Unbeknownst to them, it was Patrick and his companions with Benén carrying the tablets of Christianity.
